I love handmade soaps and its fragrance always soothed me. Being an ardent fan, I have tried many different types and when I came across Being Nyassa, I definitely tried them too. Following is my take on the handmade soaps from Nyassa Bath & Body products.
“Being Nyassa is a way of life. A set of beliefs. A belief that our products should be 100% vegetarian. That our products should not have SLS, SLES or Parabens. That we should be against animal testing. Being Nyassa is not just being a stickler for luxurious bath and body products but also an uncompromising champion of nature and our environment.”

Active Base – Active Base is an exclusive and unique blend of six pure and natural carrier oils, essential oils and extract that goes into every nyassa Handmade soap, namely Aloe Vera Extract, Grape Seed Extract, Honey Extract, Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil, Cold Pressed Wheatgerm Oil, and Vitamin E. These ingredients work best as Moisturizers, Healers, and Soothing agents.
My take on the ingredients:
The soap gives you an enthralling experience from how it looks, smells and feels. But what was more disappointing was the “Brand claim” and usage of the very ingredient which they claim to be “Free of”! 😦
The down side and the fact that put me off was the “sodium laureth sulphate” and “BHT” (majorly) in the ingredients list. Nyassa claims to be free of SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulphate)“. However, it is NOT free of harsh chemicals since the ingredients “Sodium Laureth Sulphate” and “BHT” (which is a preservative), is of moderate concern when it comes to skin health. Other ingredients of concern include Disodium EDTA & Propylene glycol.
Moreover, added colors and fragrances are present. The artificial fragrances’ source bothered me too. The soaps are handmade in the “Melt and pour” method, where the base is melted down to add the other ingredients and cook the soap. Hence, the base is here of concern and we are not sure if the soap might be able to deliver the desired nutrients to the skin.
Product Description by Nyassa:
Quantity and Price:
- Rs. 300 for 150g (Alphonso & Mandarin Citrus Variants)
- Rs. 350 for 150g (Sacred Sandalwood Variant)
Nyassa Mandarin Citrus Handmade Soap – Citrus & soothing moderate fragrance
Nyassa Alphonso Handmade Sugar Soap – Fruity (exactly like that of mango & moderate fragrance)
Nyassa Sacred Sandalwood Handmade Soap – Woody and enchanting fragrance
All 3 soaps, has an enthralling aroma and really plays with your senses and soothes it. The aesthetic factor of the soap is so beautiful that it is drool-worthy. The soaps are ideal for all skin types. The zesty citrus soap has a refreshing fragrance, Alphonso feels as if we are bathing with mango juice & Sacred sandalwood ensures to calm you with the woody fragrance. I used on wet skin and it lathered well. It efficiently cleansed my skin with a mild fragrance which lingered even after the bath (especially the Sacred Sandalwood variant).
I still needed a moisturizer since mine is very dry skin. It might work differently for different skin types. Nyassa soaps did a good job as handmade soap. However, as I shared about the ingredients which are of concern, I am not sure of its use in the long term.
- Rich fragrance & variants
- Aesthetically appealing
- Active Ingredients list mentioned
- Contains SLEs, which is contradictory to the claim, that too falling under the “Natural” category of products
Desi Réflexions statement: Good, but I will not go for a repurchase.
